Data breaches Cyberactivism Mobile MalwareAI and IoT crimeCryptojacking Summing up,

So, let’s tell you about the 5 latest cybercrime trends in 2023

Data breaches

A data breach is a violation of security. Through this, sensitive and confidential data is copied, viewed, or stolen. An unauthorised person who uses this might sell the data for money or use it for any other purpose. Sometimes, data breaches lead to unintended disclosure of information.  As per Statista,  15 million data records were disclosed to the public in the 3rd quarter of 2022.

Cyberactivism

The Internet is a new medium for communication. So, technologies like social media, e-mail, and podcasts are often used for activism. This helps to communicate and mobilize the public faster for any particular movement. However,  when it is used for illegal, violent, or threatening activism then it’s a crime.

Mobile Malware

Mobile malware means malicious software.  It targets mobiles that make the system collapse. Also, it can cause the disclosure of confidential data to the public. This makes it difficult for users to keep their data safe against attacks of viruses or other malware. As per a report, in 2022 the largest share of attacks on mobile users came from malware (80.69%).

AI and IoT crime

The use of IoT-compatible devices discloses the behavior and personal information to the internet. This is normally encrypted with complete protection. But, sometimes cheap IoT products don’t have such strong security that makes it easy to hack and control data through them.

Cryptojacking

Cryptojacking is another kind of cybercrime. In this form, the other party’s computing resources are hijacked. It is then used for mining cryptocurrency.  So, they don’t have to pay for electricity, hardware, and other mining resources. As per a report, there has been a 269% rise in cryptojacking cases in 2022.

Summing up,

With the changing time, we are adapting to new internet technologies.  However, we need to be careful and aware of cybercrimes while using the internet to keep our crucial data safe and secure.
