Acting Chief Justice TS Sivagnanam was sworn in as the new Chief Justice of Calcutta High Court by Governor CV Ananda Bose on Thursday in a ceremony held at court number one, the chief justice’s courtroom, in the oldest high court in the country. The event was attended by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari, Speaker Biman Banerjee, and senior state ministers.

The appointment of Chief Justice Sivagnanam comes after a long period of uncertainty and controversy at the Calcutta High Court, which has been without a permanent chief justice since Justice Rajesh Bindal was transferred to the Jharkhand High Court in March. Since then, the high court has been functioning under Acting Chief Justice Sivagnanam.

The appointment of a new chief justice for the Calcutta High Court was eagerly awaited by the legal fraternity and the people of West Bengal, as the high court has been facing a number of important and complex cases in recent months.

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her happiness at the appointment of Chief Justice Sivagnanam and said that she was confident that he would bring a new level of professionalism and efficiency to the functioning of the high court. She also thanked Governor CV Ananda Bose for his role in the appointment process.

Leader of the Opposition Suvendu Adhikari also welcomed the new chief justice and said that he hoped the high court would now function smoothly and efficiently under his leadership.

The Calcutta High Court is one of the oldest and most prestigious high courts in the country and has a long and illustrious history. It has been the site of many important legal battles and landmark judgments over the years and has played a key role in shaping the legal and political landscape of the country.

With the appointment of a new chief justice, the people of West Bengal can look forward to a new era of stability and progress at the Calcutta High Court, and to the resolution of many of the important legal issues that are currently pending before the court.
