Congress demands President’s Rule in Manipur, alleges pre-planned violence”

The Congress party has demanded the imposition of President’s Rule in the northeastern state of Manipur in India, following what it alleges was “pre-planned” violence. The party’s spokesperson and in-charge for Manipur, Bhakta Charan Das, also called for compensation of Rs 20 lakh for the families of those killed and Rs 5 lakh for those whose homes were destroyed in the unrest.

Speaking at a press conference, Das questioned the lack of action by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Prime Minister Narendra Modi in response to the violence, and demanded an explanation for their silence on the issue. He suggested that the failure to address the situation was indicative of a lack of concern for the people of Manipur.

The violence in Manipur has been ongoing for several days, with reports of clashes between various groups and the burning of houses and vehicles. The Congress party alleges that the violence was planned in advance, and has called for immediate action to restore peace and stability to the region.

The demand for President’s Rule, which would involve the central government taking direct control of the state, is seen as a significant escalation in the party’s response to the situation. It suggests that the Congress party is no longer satisfied with the state government’s efforts to address the unrest, and believes that more drastic action is needed.

The situation in Manipur is a reminder of the ongoing challenges facing India’s northeastern region, which has long been plagued by ethnic and political tensions. Despite efforts to address these issues, including the signing of peace agreements with various groups, violence and unrest continue to be a recurring problem.

The Congress party’s call for President’s Rule is likely to be met with resistance from the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party, which is unlikely to want to cede control of the state to the central government. However, with the violence showing no signs of abating, it is clear that some form of intervention is needed to restore calm to the region and prevent further bloodshed.

The situation in Manipur is a stark reminder of the challenges facing India’s northeastern region, and the need for ongoing efforts to promote peace and stability in the area. The Congress party’s demand for President’s Rule may be controversial, but it reflects the urgency of the situation and the need for immediate action to address the ongoing violence.
