Acting on the information, a police team set up a check and intercepted the two vehicles. The Gypsies did not display registration number plates, raising immediate suspicion.

During inspection, police found that the vehicles were carrying liquor without valid documents. Officials confirmed that the transportation violated existing laws.

Four Accused Taken into Custody

Police identified the four occupants as Darshung (24), ST Koko (27), Kophamhring (23), and HP Mono (30). All four are residents of Zaphou Bazar in Chandel district.

The police team detained them at the spot and later took them into custody for further questioning.

Large Quantity of Liquor Recovered

During the search, police recovered a substantial consignment of alcoholic beverages. The seized items included 219 bottles of 360 ml JO-Ei Soju and 685 cans of 500 ml Chang beer.

Police also seized both Gypsy vehicles used for transporting the liquor.

Investigation Into Smuggling Links

Officials said investigators are questioning the accused to trace the source of the liquor and identify its intended destination. Police are also examining whether the case has links to a larger smuggling network operating across districts.

Authorities said they will take legal action under relevant sections once the investigation progresses.

Police to Intensify Surveillance

Manipur Police reiterated their commitment to cracking down on illegal liquor trade in the state. Officials said they will intensify vehicle checks and surveillance, especially along inter-district routes.

Police urged the public to cooperate by sharing information related to illegal activities. They said strict action would continue against those involved in unlawful transportation and sale of liquor.

The seizure highlights ongoing efforts by Manipur Police to curb illegal trade and maintain law and order across the state.
