Introduction

The 18th G20 Summit, hosted by India, kicked off in grand fashion at the Bharat Mandapam Convention Centre in New Delhi. The event saw the participation of leaders from over 30 countries and organizations, including prominent figures like US President Joe Biden and UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The first day of the summit was marked by significant developments, reaffirming the importance of global cooperation and unity. The proceedings included the unanimous approval of the Delhi Declaration, the formal inclusion of the African Union into the group, the establishment of a biofuel alliance, and the announcement of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IECC EC).

One of the highlights of the evening was the warm exchange between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, President Droupadi Murmu, and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Deputy Director Gita Gopinath during a dinner hosted by President Murmu. In a gesture of appreciation, Gopinath congratulated Prime Minister Modi for the successful organization of the G20 Summit and praised India’s message of “one earth, one family, one future,” which resonated strongly with all delegates. In response, Prime Minister Modi expressed gratitude and emphasized that these efforts reflect the collective spirit of unity and progress.

Gopinath’s Interaction

Gopinath’s interactions were not limited to the Prime Minister alone. She also had the opportunity to meet with President Droupadi Murmu, whose life story she found deeply inspiring. This exchange showcased the diverse and inspiring figures gathered at the summit.

India’s assumption of the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, marked the beginning of a year-long effort that included approximately 200 meetings held in 60 cities across the country. The 18th G20 Summit in New Delhi serves as the culmination of these extensive preparations, bringing together ministers, senior officials, and civil society representatives.

Conclusion

With a commitment to unity, progress, and global cooperation, India’s hosting of the 18th G20 Summit has set a positive tone for the future. The unanimous consensus on the Delhi Declaration and the establishment of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor are clear indicators of the collective determination to address global challenges and foster economic growth. As the summit continues, world leaders will work together to shape policies and initiatives that benefit not just individual nations but the entire global community.
