The programme was chaired by CADC Executive Secretary Pronit Bikash Chakma. Beforehand, he read out the government notification appointing Nirupam Chakma as the Chief Executive Member.

Afterwards, Lawngtlai Deputy Commissioner Donny Lalruatsanga administered the Oath of Office and Secrecy.

New CEM Promises Transparent Governance

After taking the oath, Nirupam Chakma thanked the Governor of Mizoram, the Chief Minister, the Minister for District Council and Minority Affairs, and the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party for their confidence.

He also assured residents that his administration would maintain transparency, accountability, and efficient public service.

Furthermore, he identified education, healthcare, road infrastructure, and youth employment as key priorities.

In addition, he promised to accelerate development projects across the Council area.

Meanwhile, he appealed to Village Councils, civil society organisations, churches, and community leaders for cooperation.

According to him, public participation will play an important role in achieving sustainable development.

Minister Welcomes End of Governor’s Rule

District Council and Minority Affairs Minister C. Lalsawivunga also addressed the gathering.

He said the formation of the new Executive Committee marked the end of the prolonged Governor’s Rule in the CADC.

Furthermore, he expressed confidence that the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party would deliver stable governance.

He also wished the new Executive Committee success during its tenure.

Composition of the New Executive Committee

The Chakma Autonomous District Council has 20 elected Members of District Council.

Meanwhile, the Chakma Democratic Alliance Legislature Party has formed the new Executive Committee.

The alliance includes 10 members from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and nine members from the Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM).

As a result, the alliance now holds the majority required to govern the Council.

Going forward, the new administration plans to focus on development and public welfare.

Dignitaries Attend Ceremony

Several prominent leaders attended the swearing-in ceremony.

Among them were Minister C. Lalsawivunga, Devesh Kumar, former MLAs, sitting and former MDCs, government officials, political party leaders, and invited guests.

Overall, the event marked the formal beginning of the new Executive Committee’s tenure.

Importance for Mizoram and Northeast India

The Chakma Autonomous District Council plays an important role in governing the Chakma-majority areas of Lawngtlai district under the Sixth Schedule.

Therefore, the formation of the new Executive Committee is significant for local governance.

Moreover, it strengthens democratic administration and supports regional development in Mizoram and the Northeast.
